About

For as long as I can remember, I've loved two things. Cooking, and survival. Id camp, climb, hike, anything that involved the outdoors. Id take cooking classes that focused on how to cook outdoors, or with little supplies. I always marveled at our militaries MRE's (meals ready to eat). These things have only been hobbies. Until now.

My mom became a flight attendant years ago and always struggled to eat well while on the go. She will do 4 or 5 day trips from her base out of state, and have to try and pack enough food for those days in her luggage. Sometimes she goes to Mexico and can only bring prepackaged food. It made keeping healthy incredibly difficult for her. I thought about the MRE's and how convenient that would be. Light weight and portable while also being fully sealed. However, when I looked at the nutritional value on the civilian available MRE's, they were loaded with sodium and other processing chemicals.

. thought, if I could make them myself, my mom can have healthy, light weight meals on the go. We invested in a freeze drier and off I went. I've made breakfast scrambles with eggs, sausage, spinach, and green chilies.  There are freeze dried fruits and vegetables for snacking. Beef in red chile sauce, my grandmothers goulash, hash browns, pizza bites, the list goes on. All with no added chemicals and they are shelf stable for up to 25 years.
